Overview

Surge XT is a free and open-source hybrid software synthesizer that combines subtractive, wavetable, FM, and additive synthesis in a single plugin. Originally a commercial synth, it was open-sourced and is now developed by the Surge Synth Team community.

It is suited to sound designers and producers of all levels and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux in VST3, AU, CLAP, and standalone formats.

  • Three oscillators with multiple modes including wavetable, FM, and Twist
  • Two filters offering a wide range of filter algorithms
  • Deep modulation system with many sources and destinations
  • Built-in effects including reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, and distortion
  • Large library of factory presets
  • Fully open-source and free with no feature limits
